Army School, Nagrota as we call it today, made its humble beginning in 1974 to figure on the map of Army Schools of the country. It was then christened Nav Niketan Nursery School. This School was established purely as a welfare measure for the wards of all ranks of Nagrota Garrison. In 1982, the School got a new name, viz Trikuta Nursery School
With the introduction of Class I and II, in the School in the subsequent years, it attained a higher status i.e., Army School Nagrota with effect from June 1, 1985. With the introduction of Class VIII in the School, with effect from April 1993, the School got affiliated to All India Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi. The School was inaugurated on 08 Jul 1993 by Lt Gen H S Bedi, General Officer Commanding, 16 Corps.
In April 1994, Class IX was introduced in the School, the managing committee decided to upgrade the School to the Secondary level and a formal request was made to All India Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi. Consequently, a team of officers from the said board inspected the School on Sep 2, 1994.
On the recommendations of the said team, necessary sanction for the up-gradation of the School to the Secondary Level was accorded retrospectively wef April 01, 1994 vide CBSE letter No CBSE/AFF/93/7314/1122-25 and Affiliation No. 730014 dated 26 Sep 1994.
